Katya is a multi-disciplinary artist, specialising in ceramics and installation art. They create playscapes that centre queerness, neurodiversity and communal shaping of spaces. They create intricate collections of objects and prompts that puzzle into modular playgrounds within gallery spaces, queering the spaces themselves. Attentive to materiality of their pieces, Katya uses their craft skillset to produce most of the pieces by hand, giving preference to ceramics and wood, for their long history of materials for play. During their time at Deptford X, they developed their community-centred approach to art. Their work is activated by the audience and they often choose to lead community-focused creative workshops as a way to shape non-hierarchal conversations.
